Thai Massage
The classic healing arts of thai massage are our founder’s specialty! Practiced for centuries by Thai monks, and forming a central component of Thai medicine, Thai massage is believed to have originated over 2,500 years ago in India. Originally developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, the physician to Siddhartha Gautama – the Buddha – the technique made its way to Thailand, where the original Ayurvedic techniques combined with principles from traditional Chinese medicine. The healing benefits of Thai massage include:
- Reduced muscle tension
- Increased joint mobility
- Improved blood circulation
- Balance and increased energy levels
- Reduces headaches, neck pain, and sciatic pain
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is a great introductory massage for many reasons, number one being that it involves firm, yet gentle strokes. You are placed on a flat elevated massage table with a cutout for your face. Beginning on your stomach, the massage therapist will begin long, firm brush-like strokes along your back and eventually over your shoulders, arms, then down to lower back and legs. Halfway through the appointment you will be asked to turn over, finishing the second half face up for the treatment of your upper shoulders, arms and fronts of legs. Massage therapists usually use either the flat palm or heel of their hand or a grouping of fingertips to deliver pressure to tight spots and also help loosen and lengthen muscles. The healing benefits of Swedish massage include:
- Increased relaxation and blood circulation
- Pain relief for sports injuries and/or chronic pain
- Improves mood and helps fight fatigue, depression and anxiety
Sports Massage
Sports massage therapy is geared toward athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers. The particulars of the sports massage technique are specific to the athlete’s sport of choice. Focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements.
Aspects of sports massage therapy are gaining popularity as useful components in a balanced training regimen. Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that the benefits of sports massage include:
- Promotes flexibility
- Reduces fatigue
- Improves endurance
- Helps prevent injury
- Prepares mind and body for optimal performance
Deep Tissue Massage
The benefits of deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).
Unlike Swedish massage, which has a relaxing effect and uses lighter pressure, deep tissue massage is done using deep finger pressure with strokes that are firm and slow. Deep tissue massage has several therapeutic effects and can be used to treat many different conditions. This type of massage is ideal for the treatment of major muscle groups like the neck or lower back. It can also be used to relieve strain and treat injuries in your joints and tendons. The healing benefits of deep tissue massage include:
- Lower blood pressure
- Relieves back pain
- Helps with arthritis pain/symptoms
- Reduces chronic pain
